CITY of GOD, 2002
"Cidade de Deus" (City of God) is a housing project built in the 60's. Soon after, in the early 80's, it became one of the most dangerous places in Rio de Janeiro. This drama tells the stories of many characters through the eyes of a singular narrator: Buscapé, a poor black boy too frail to become an outlaw but too smart to be content in the his Hell. He realizes that he sees reality differently than others. His redemption is that he's been given an artist's point of view as a photographer. Buscapé is not the real protagonist of the film, only the narrator. He shares the story of the lives of children who grow to be men in the City of God.
